Maintaining and restoring stained glass windows

Churches are worship places where solemnity and sanctity have to be maintained. The décor should be simple and elegant with quality furniture. Most churches have stained glass windows. These windows require very artistic and fine craftsmanship to make them. These windows create magic and transform the whole look of the church.

Stained glass windows are made with the small pieces of colored glass which are cut into required sizes and arranged to make patterns. These pieces are held together firmly in lead grooves or zinc stripes called cames. These frames are then mounted on the windows. Over the years these stained glass windows get damaged due to natural destructive forces such are air pollution of excessive sunlight or due to vandalism.

Stained glass restoration service has to be done by a professional in case the tiny glass pieces have come out of the cames. It has to be carefully restored so that the window will not get damaged in the process. Normal washing with warm water can be done for cleaning it, but without using any chemical detergents.

Most of the churches have bare wooden pews. Some churches have pew upholstery for added comfort. There may be some elderly folk who may find it uncomfortable to sit on wooden benches for a long time and so having cushioned pews will enable them to comfortably sit. The custom church pew cushions are useful for supporting the backs of those having back ache.

Make sure you clean the stained glass windows regularly and also get it professionally checked to see that any form of damage is prevented.
